Time and money are primary considerations throughout the process of design and construction in every project. The conservation of each through an economy of "moves" is not simply value engineering but can also enrich and deepen the project's content. Prefabrication in architecture involves the production and assembly of building components offsite in a controlled setting. Prefab reduces or eliminates the need to transport skilled labor and materials to the site and drastically reduces construction time. Our prefab lofts take advantage of this technique, using an introductory module fabricated offsite while a structural platform is constructed onsite. These modules can then be arranged to create multiple building types and accommodate a combination of programmatic functions. In this example, we have created private loft housing units above, commercial spaces at street level, and a shared open park on the roof.
