A Dialogue Between Heritage and Modern Living

Located in the scenic Pacific Palisades, this remodel and addition project reimagines a classic 1947 Tudor-style home for contemporary family life. The homeowners aimed to preserve the historic charm of their residence while adapting it to support a growing household and modern lifestyle.

Taking full advantage of the generous attic volume typical of Tudor architecture, the new design weaves new bedrooms and living spaces seamlessly into the existing structure. The result is a thoughtful expansion that honors the home's original character while enhancing spatial flow and livability.

In order to maintain the existing zoning regulations, 50% of the original exterior walls and roof were preserved. From the street, the home retains its distinctive Tudor silhouette, respectfully maintaining its presence within the neighborhood fabric. In contrast, the rear elevation reveals a contemporary addition—pared-down in ornamentation and clean in detailing—to reflect a more modern sensibility.

This dual expression strikes a balance between past and present, marrying the narrative richness of traditional architecture with the clarity and comfort of contemporary design. The result is a home that evolves gracefully while staying rooted in its origins.
