The King Residence, situated in Los Angeles, occupies a spacious 16,581-square-foot lot boasting scenic vistas of downtown LA and the neighboring mountains. Initially constructed in 1966 and once belonging to musician Trent Reznor, the home underwent a significant renovation to create a fresh identity and experience while optimizing cost and construction efficiency. The project retained much of the existing structure and walls, focusing renovations on selected rooms and introducing a new addition in an open area on the property.

Collaborating on the design were designer Sarah McKay of ColabHouse, homeowner Grant King, landscape designer Environmental Design Group, and construction manager Wendy Sherman. Their talents and vision emphasized modern aesthetics characterized by clean lines, practical spatial volumes, and extensive use of glass windows to blend indoor and outdoor environments. The exterior was revamped with contemporary elements such as a sleek infinity pool, a sunken fire pit area, and generous lounging spaces, enhancing the home's integration with its surroundings.

Key features of the remodel included redefining the exterior facades and roofline for a more contemporary appearance, opening up the kitchen and den to maximize views of downtown LA, and creating a double-height main living room with a connecting bridge above that links the upper bedrooms. The upper floor showcases an expanded master suite and an open gym and spa area, offering panoramic views of the nearby mountains. These design choices reflect a careful balance of functionality and aesthetic sophistication, resulting in high-performance spaces tailored to meet the homeowner's specific needs.
