The Milwood Residence, located in the coastal neighborhood of Venice, encapsulates the architectural principles of Californian living through its versatile and utilitarian design that emphasizes comfort and ample space. The open-plan "shotgun" floor design seamlessly integrates indoor and outdoor living areas, promoting fluidity and organic transitions. In tribute to the historic artist lofts of Venice, a double height living room was incorporated, leveraging the western light to inundate the interior and offering expansive views of the surrounding outdoor spaces. As one ascends via a floating staircase to the upper levels and ultimately the roof deck, panoramic vistas of Venice and the Santa Monica Mountains are revealed.

The building was developed in collaboration with the local community, ensuring its design harmoniously aligns with the surrounding neighborhood in terms of scale, mass, and compatibility. Through this collaboration, we were able to meet the specific needs and requirements of our clients while also respecting the context of the neighborhood. The result is a building that not only serves the needs of its residents, but also enhances the overall aesthetic and livability of the community.
